I’m using Teradata Express on linux machine - aws.
When starting the machine, Teradata is not starting properly.
I have to stop it and start it several times until Teradata works fine.
Today it did not start at all...
When I type this command:
I get this state:
PDE state is RUN/STARTED.
DBS state is 7: System is operational without PEs - Sessions are not allowed
What can be the cause of this problem?
Thank you very much
Well, there's no Parsing Engine, no way to logon.
There were several crashes of the PE during the restarts, which finally lead to a FATAL state.
You can investigate what caused the crashes (/var/log/messages) and then try to set it ONLINE again using VProcManager.
But as it's an Express version it might be easier to dump it and start with a fresh one.
Thank you Dieter,
I've tried looking at /var/log/messages but could not find any useful information - can you please guide me what to look for?
i've also tried restarting with tpareset –f and deleting /var/opt/teradata/tdtemp/PanicLoopDetected, but I still get the same state.
I would like to create a new TDE on AWS but it is no longer available – is there a way of creating it?
Can I somehow access and extract the data on the faulted machine?
Thank you very much for your help
There should be messages when & why Teradata restarts, search for entires following "#TPA START".
To fix it you might start the Database Window (xdbw) and then "start vprocmanager":
"status" will show the down PE number, then "set nnnnn online" and finally "restart tpa bla" and keep your fingers crossed.
Thank you Dieter,
I’ve decided creating a new TDE machine.
Since there is no longer TDE in AWS, I would like to create a linux machine in AWS and install the TDE VM on it.
Do you have any recommendations? Which OS is best? Which TDE version?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
