Problem with data source using adhoc query tool on AIX

I get this error when trying to connect using the adhoc query tool:

{error} STATE=IM002, CODE=0, MSG=[DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

OS: AIX 5.3. ML7 SP2
Teradata driver (output from lslpp -l tdodbc.odbc):
Path: /usr/lib/objrepos
tdodbc.odbc 3.6.0.2 COMMITTED Teradata ODBC Driver for AIX 5

Copied odbc.ini to .odbc.ini in my home directory.

Added a new datasource to the [ODBC Data Sources] sections and created a new section for my datasource.

Added /usr/teragss/aix-power.32/client/lib and /usr/lpp/tdodbc/odbc/lib to LIBPATH.

It seems like something is not right in my environment but I haven't been able to figure out what. It's like it can't find my .odbc.ini file.

Any ideas/help wil be appreciated.

Thanks.

- run adhoc under truss and see in the output what odbc.ini file is being opened.

- export ODBCINI env. variable pointing to the right odbc.ini file.
