contextarea paramter to CLI functions

Hi Folks,

Just a quick question...does the ContextArea paramter to CLI functions need to be a persistant variable between calls, and does each session require it own context variable? Or can this paramter be an automatic variable, or shared between different sessions?

Cheers

Re: contextarea paramter to CLI functions

I assume you are referring to Network CLI. The documentation for network CLI states

"four-byte field which may contain any value because it is not used by CLI or
the application program. It is provided to maintain compatibility with calls
on mainframe clients."

However, I think the only exception to this rule is related to DBCHWL see DBCHUE and DBCHWL in CLI documentation.

No, I am using channel CLI on an IBM mainframe, and it only says the field is used by CLI for its own use. But whether or not this means between calls im not sure.
