Activating new character sets other than default

Hello,

We have a requirement to activate new character sets as data will be loaded from oracle which is in languages like czech, russian, romanian. I know we have to use unicode mode if we activate these new character sets. This is the requirement by one of the applications. But question is will there be any harm to current data/user present in teradata as these system is shared by many other applications?

thanks,

Kiran

Re: Activating new character sets other than default

There are server and client character sets in Teradata. Unicode is the only server character set which will support czech, russian, and romanian. Your client character set needs to match the Oracle Database character set. We support Unicode character sets (e.g., UTF8) and single-byte character sets (e.g., Latin1250_1A0). UTF8 is always active and Latin1250_1A0 needs to be installed. Refer to the Orange Book "Getting Started: Intl Char Sets ..." and the "Intl Char Set support" reference manual for more details.

And have a look at the Unicode Tool Kit if you got some characters which fail to import
