Capacity required by DBC

Hello , good afternoon.

Now i have the following problem , wish get some help from you.

Customer would like to increase the maximum value (MaxPerm) of MAPSDB which is the user database, but for the moment it seems to be the only way to distribute it from DBC.

How much capacity should I have in DBC?

The current DBC free space is about 700 GB.

thanks in advance

Best regards

David

Re: Capacity required by DBC

There are other database like
ACNDB
TAPEMAPSDB3
MAPSUH
DBQL
with a few hundred GBs of free space.
But this system is already over 80% full, you will (or did) run into problems, depending on the system the free space is usually recommended to be 20 to 30+%.

Re: Capacity required by DBC

Hello Dnoeth,

Thank very much for your help.

According to your advice, whether i can understand that for the current situation this system is already over 80% full, but still have 20% can be use. so that is no problem ? but the better will be 20 to 30+%.

thank you very much

Best regards

Re: Capacity required by DBC

No, you can't use the remaining perm.

You might be able to load more data, but then there's not enough spool to retrieve it.

Remember, spool & temp space are unused perm space.

In worst case you'll encounter an "out of spool on disk" error, indicating no more free space.

A cylinder is reserved for either Perm or Spool and will have some free (unused) space.

dbc.DiskSpaceV might tell you 20% is free, but checking the Free Cylinders using Ferret might reveal they're close to 0.

Then the system needs to start Cylpacks to free cylinders...
