Ceating secondary indexes for performance gains...

Quick Question : if you create a secondary index on an already existing table for the purpose of gaining greater performance on your queries,  is it required to re-load the table and collect statistics on the secondary IDX so that teradata will recognize the new IDX and use it when determining the best access path..?   Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,  US-Rose

Hi US-Rose,

of course you don't have to reload, the index is immediately known to the optimizer but you should collect stats.
