Hi all,

How do we find the data dictionary tables and views available in Teradata?

The data dictionary tables and view are available under the user DBC.

However you are NOT supposed to access these tables directly (and you won't have permissions either), instead you should go through the views under DBC which is the user window into Data dictionary.

And yeah, you can query the data dictionary manual available at the teradata website to get more information on each of those views. ;)

As a short cut, you can also double click on the view name via TD administrator (aka winddi) and it would expand the lower pane to display the column names and a small comment as to what that column signifies...

--For Views:
select TableName from Dbc.TablesV where DataBaseName='Dbc' and TableKind='V' order by 1;

--For tables:
select TableName from Dbc.TablesV where DataBaseName='Dbc' and TableKind='T' order by 1;
