Incremental / Differential backup in Teradata...

Hi,

Generally we are using ARCMAIN utility to backup the database or tables in our
environment.I have a scenario to take incremental backup for some of the databases daily.

Can anyone help me how to take incremental/ differential backup for a database using ARCMAIN?

Re: Incremental / Differential backup in Teradata...

There are multiple things you may need to consider before go for incremental backup. In simplest way, for incremental backup:

First, enable AFTER permanent journaling on your data tables or at database level, if it is not already enabled. Take Full baseline backup of Database or Tables and then start taking regular (hourly, daily, weekly etc.) backup of Permanent Journal tables.

Ideally, one should also take full data backup periodically, may be weekly, and monthly depends on your database size and other infrastructure, for faster recovery and other considerations.

You may also need to purge data from permanent journal tables periodically, could be after each journal backup.

At database level:
CREATE DATABASE my_db
FROM XXXspace
AS
PERM = 4000000000 (4GB)
SPOOL = 200000000
ACCOUNT = ‘$xxxxxx’
NO FALLBACK
AFTER JOURNAL
NO BEFORE JOURNAL
DEFAULT JOURNAL TABLE =
my_db.journals;

at table level:

CREATE TABLE my_db.my_table
