Script to move users from one environment to another

I would like to know if it is possible to create a script to move users, with passwords, from one system to another (i.e. Prod to Dev).  The plan is to do the following:

1. Sysinit Dev

2. Restore from a prod_dbc_only and prod_dbc_all backup.

3. Add back the Dev users with passwords intact.

Thank you!

Re: Script to move users from one environment to another

Hi,

You can move your prod users to dev by doing the dbc backup and restore.

The problem is putting the dev users back in with their previous passwords. You cannot extract that information from a Teradata system.

All other information for the user definitions will largely come from the DBC.UsersV view (or the DBC.Dbase table). You will also need to sort out AccessRights for your dev users (and possibly remove some for prod users).

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Dave!

What you have explained is exactly what I have experienced.  I have been told that Data Mover may be able to accomplish this.  Any ideas on that?

Step 3 is not possible if you want to restore Prod DBC.

Data Mover also cannot accomplish this.
