Statistics on Tables - When should this be run?

I have a Teradata system running which has a lot of data churn.  Millions of rows per day.  Currently we refresh the stats once a week.  Does anyone have experience of running with such a system and can suggest when and how we should refresh stats?  In my Oracle days #shudder we ran refresh jobs as and when during the day especially when tables had significant insert/delete activity.  Is this possible in Teradata?  I've noticed a AutoStats feature but not sure of it's capabilities.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
