String function to reverse search

Hi,
Without using UDFs and
without using lookup join,

1. is there an easier way to find the position of the last occurrence of a character (say '_') in a string?

2. how to find the nth occurrence of a character in a string when scanned from right to left (nth occurrence from last)?
or
3. how to do reverse search string?

I found similar topic in this forum but doesn't provide a straight forward working solution.
http://www.teradata.com/teradataforum/Topic3834-9-1.aspx

Does Teradata 12.0 (or in upcoming 13.0) have a solution for this?

Thanks,
