Teradata VM 16 - PDE Not accessible.

Hello,

I face this issue pretty often of the VM getting stuck and then not becoming accessible. Has anyone encountered such issue?

Last week I suddenly started receiving message on TD 15- All virtual circuits are busy. Then I tried to use TD 16 VM but now I am facing this weird issue. Any help on this would be highly appreciated

Re: Teradata VM 16 - PDE Not accessible.

Hi,

I'm not sure about all the problems that you're facing but I think we can start with:

"May 1 12:19:56 TDExpress16004_Sles11 Teradata[9521]: DEGRADED: Teradata: 11084 #Event number 33-11084-00 (severity 40, category 9) Not enough physical memory for FSG subsystem"

- How much memory have you got allocated to this VM? You'll typically need at least 4GB and 8GB if running Viewpoint as well.

- On this score, what is the config for your system? I'm assuming this is TDExpress, so it should be 1 PE, 2 AMPs.

You also said that on one system you saw "All virtual circuits are busy". This is typically when you've had lots of sessions which have been forceably disconnected, others have logged on but the gateway software hasn't had enough time to clean out the forceably disconnected sessions. Each session requires a 'circuit' and there are only so many allowed.

If dbms/pde won't start then try removing the following file:

rm -f /var/opt/teradata/tdtemp/PanicLoopDetected

It also looks like you might have a network issue ("e1000: eth0: e1000_clean_tx_irq: Detected Tx Unit Hang"). What is the network config in your VM settings. I tend to use 'host only' on mine, although I think the VM comes with 'bridged'.

Cheers,

Dave

Re: Teradata VM 16 - PDE Not accessible.

Thank you so much, Dave. Increasing the memory allocation to 4GB resolved the issue.

Actually I was running this VM with 1GB memory allocation and it used to work fine, but suddenly I started encountering the issue. Are there any files that get filled up and it gradually needs more memory? If so can we clean them?

Re: Teradata VM 16 - PDE Not accessible.

Hi,

I'm glad changing the memory allocation worked. To be honest I'm surprised (and impressed!) that you could run it in 1GB.

I'm not aware of any 'files filling up' that might affect this. Typically you'll need a minimum of 4GB to run the system and that won't change.

Cheers,

Dave
