UNIQUE PRIMARY INDEX Problems

Hi guys,
as usual :)
i have difficulty to understand the term of UPI.
it said that it will guarantee the uniqueness of a table.
but somehow, when i do merge into statement, it return error.
the error said duplicate on primary key (is it key or index??).

i am confident that the data inserted will not duplicate, because i use update in when matched clause of merge into statement.

is it because the value that being hash has the same hash value although the real value is different?
how i can overcome this problem?

thanks.

Re: UNIQUE PRIMARY INDEX Problems

It's not a duplicate hash, it's definitely rows with the same values for the columns that make up the primary index.

As the index is unique, then it could be classed as a primary key, hence the message referring to a primary key.

If you can publish the DDL of the table(s) involved and the update statement, we should be able to help more.
