Unicode set at server level

How does Teradata store data when the server is set to default = unicode? Won't the letter A take up the same amount of space (one byte) in server environment UNICODE as server environment LATIN? If not, then why?

Re: Unicode set at server level

It takes about 3 times the space as compared to Latin.

Re: Unicode set at server level

As far as internal server representation: Teradata LATIN always occupies one byte per character; Teradata UNICODE two bytes per character.
