I have a few of the Teradata Express images. Is there any way to adjust the amount of memory that that Teradata database takes up when its running. As an example Allocated 70% of the available memory to the system, or adjust it down to 50%. This is so if we are running it on a vmware host with less memory available we can run the VM with less memory, and also run the database with a smaller memory footprint too.
Any help would be appreciated.
The available RAM can be modified using the "ctl" command line tool to modify the "FSG Cache Percent", e.g. a value of 30 means after starting the Teradata software 30 perceont of the remaining RAM is used for cache and the remaining 70 percent is available for other programs:
But this is only helpful when you want to run additonal software on the image.
Otherwise Teradata automatically uses less memory when you lower the RAM assigned to the VM.
It's probably already set to the lowest practical value, i don't think you can reduce it much further without getting very low performance.
