I have a problem connecting with Teradata Studio to the Teradata Express database.
My configuration is:
Host machine with Windows 7 (64 bit), with VMWare Player 5 and two VM guests:
- VM Guest with TDExpress14.0.3_Sles10_40GB (Teradata Express database on Linux)
- VM Guest with Windows 7 and TeradataStudio__win64_x86.14.10.00.00 (Teradata Studio for Windows)
Both VM Guests have their network adapater/connection 'Bridged'.
On the Windows VM Guest also Java is installed.
The Linux VM Guest has an IP adres of 192.168.0.255
On the Windows guest, in a dos prompt I can ping the Linux server with this IP adres.
But when in Teradata Studio, I make a connection, and try 'test connection', I get 'Ping failed'.
I tried as database servername the IP adres, and the Linux servername (which is TDExpress1403_Sles10), but both give the same result (Ping failed).
user/password/database = dbc/dbc/dbc
Any suggestions about what could be wrong ?
Thanks in advance,
I found the problem. I used the wrong IP address of the Teradata VM Guest.
The right IP adres can be found with ifconfig (in a 'Gnome terminal' session).
My ifconfig on my Teradata machine looks like this:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0C:29:01:03:9B
inet addr: 192.168.0.118 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

The right IP address is the one marked in bold.
I saw this in a post of AndrewSchroter, many thanks !
