Studio 16.10.0.0 does not show SQL Editor window

Hi,

Just downloaded and installed the TDStudio (full program, not 'Express') and although I can connect to a Teradata system I cannot open an 'sql editor' perspective to run queries. A minor issue (annoyance really) also happens on this upgrade.

1) I upgraded from TDStudio 15.10.'something' (sorry, can't remember which one right now). Even after the upgrade my connections were still in  place but they're unusable because (it seems) the connection property "QUERY_BAND" is no longer allowed. It is now "QueryBand". If anyone hits the same thing, go into 'connection properties' delete the QUERY_BAND property and re-add as "QueryBand".

2) Having got logged on Studio seems to default to 'Teradata Administrator' perspective - which is fine. But if I click the 'Open SQL Editor' then the list of connection profiles on the left are hidden and I cannot see any sql editor window being opened.

What am I doing wrong?

Studio window after start and logon:

Just after logging on to a TD systemJust after logging on to a TD system

If I then click "Query Development", or "Open SQL Editor" I lose most visible information:

"What! No sql editor?""What! No sql editor?"

As of now I have no usable TDStudio installation. If I have to go back to 15.10 then I can but I'd like to get this sorted if possible.

Re: Studio 16.10.0.0 does not show SQL Editor window

Window / Show View / Other... should allow you to make the Data Source Explorer and/or Project Explorer panes visible.

Or at this point it might be advisable to use Window / Reset Perspective... to apply all the defaults.

Re: Studio 16.10.0.0 does not show SQL Editor window

As mentioned, a Reset Perspective in the Query Development perspective should return the SQL Editor.

Starting in 15.11 release, we introduced the separate Perspectives to provide focus on certtain tasks. Here is a link to the Studio UI document that may help to shed some light on Studio and the 3 perspectives - https://community.teradata.com/t5/Tools/New-Teradata-Studio-Administration-User-Experience/m-p/26553...

Since Studio is an Administration tool, it will be in the Administration perspective when first comes up. If you want to just run queries, I would recomment using Studio Express.

Re: Studio 16.10.0.0 does not show SQL Editor window

Hi Fred / Francine,

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already tried that and no luck.

However (just found out), closing Studio and re-starting it seems to have cleared 'whatever'. I can now open an SQL Editor perspective.

I'll have a read of the linked article as well.

Cheers,

Dave
