Re: ARCMAIN Error : Name not in HOSTS file or names database

Thanks for the info. But, i am able to connect sql assistant & administrator using the same set of connection strings.
However, ARCMAIN is raising a issue while using the same string.

BTW, how to verify the host name registered correctly or not.

Re: ARCMAIN Error : Name not in HOSTS file or names database

Teradata administrator and SQL Assistant are ODBC based client tools and connect using the IP Address/DNS names mentioned in the DSN settings. The CLI utilities on the other hand requires a TDPID/IP address to connect ...

The appropriate way to connect to TD in a CLI utility is to make use of the TDPID in the logon string...

like this ..

LOGON TDPROD/myuser,mypass;

So you need to find the tdpid for your teradata system ..., this is generally easy to guess. especially if your have DNS names for your teradata nodes as tdprodcop1.my.com tdprodcop2.my.com ... etc then the tdpid is tdprod ...

Re: ARCMAIN Error : Name not in HOSTS file or names database

HI
if u using teradata demo version .for ARCMAIN

enter like this

logon DEMOTDAT/username,password;

example

logon demotdat/teradata,teradata;

Re: ARCMAIN Error : Name not in HOSTS file or names database

If you are using default Teradata Express 12 (probably 13 too) this will work:

LOGON localtd/youeuser,yourpass;

If you use Windows XP check values in the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

I have here:
127.0.0.1 localhost localtdcop1

so i used localtdc for theaddress.

Thanks to joedsilva for help!

Backup script template:
--
LOGON localtd/youlogin,yourpass;
ARCHIVE DATA TABLES (yourdbname),
RELEASE LOCK,
FILE=ARCHIVE;
LOGOFF;

Backup files will save in the same directory as the script file location

Restore script template:
--
LOGON host/yourlogin,yourpass;
DELETE DATABASE (yourdbname);
RESTORE DATA TABLES (yourdbname),
RELEASE LOCK,
FILE=ARCHIVE;
LOGOFF;

Re: ARCMAIN Error : Name not in HOSTS file or names database

/opt/teradata/client/13.10/lib # grep dbc clispb.dat

i_dbcpath=dbc

Since you see "dbc" here, you should add "127.0.0.1 localhost dbccop1" to /etc/hosts
