Any Tips for loading Excel spreadsheet from end-user client workstation

Hi,

Which client utility would be the simplest for end-users to load Excel spreadsheets to Teradata tables and what are the steps.

1.) Should they save .xls file as a .csv or .prn file and use fastload (empty) or mload (existing) table, as long as the format does not change I would build a canned script for the end-users.

2.) The same as above but use Teradata Parallel Transporter however what format should be specified for the load file (delimited, formatted, unformatted etc.)?

Any suggestions are apreciated.

Thnx,
Marius

If not too many rows, I just use the import option in SQL Assistant. You have to create a csv file first.

JK,
Thnx I think Sql Assistant import will be the simplest though care must be taken with input format.

MS Access may be a good option too as you could link Teradata tables.

Convert you file in a comma separated or tab separated file from MS Excel.

In SQL Assistant
Goto File -> Click on Import Data

Goto Tools -> Options
Click on Import/Export Tab
Choose the Delimiter.

TYPE INSERT INTO VALUES
(
?,?,?,?,?
)
;

Click Execute, When it asks for the file. Browse for the file.
Click OK After selecting the file.
Import should start right away and the status would show you if the records are being entered.

Done ..

Thnx all, Sql Assistant worked fine with my test.
I am also testing with Parallel Transporter using different formats for the file layout.
