SSL support for TPT

Hi All,

We are using HDFS API to move data from Teradata to Hadoop. We are using TPT version 15.10 and Hortonworks Hadoop 2.5.

We are using TPT Export Operator and DataConnector Consumer operator.

Can someone please tell us whether TPT is having any option to initiate an SSL connection between Teradata and Hadoop?

Or is there any other option to make the communication between Teradata and Hadoop more secure?

Thanks & Regards,

Arpan.

Re: SSL support for TPT

TPT does not currently support an option for the connection to be an SSL connection.

Re: SSL support for TPT

Thanks Steve for your response.

Is there any way we can make secure communication while data transfer between Teradata and Hadoop using TDCH TPT or HDFS API?

Thanks & Regards,

Arpan.

Re: SSL support for TPT

You can turn on Data encryption of your JDBC connection by adding "encryptdata=on" to your existing connection.  depending on the setup of your database this can use AES 128, 192 or 256 or 3DES.

Re: SSL support for TPT

Do you mean:

DataEncryption = ‘option’ Optional attribute that enables full security encryption of SQL requests, responses,
and data.
Valid values are:
• ‘On’ = all SQL requests, responses, and data are encrypted.
• ‘Off ’ = no encryption occurs (default).

Whether this option will also encrypt data while writting to HDFS?

Thanks & Regards,

Arpan.

Re: SSL support for TPT

Yes, this will only protect the data inflight to and from Teradata.  Your Hadoop admins will have to help you with regards to having the data encrypted at rest.
