Trimspool(Oracle) Equivalent in Teradata

Hi All,

Is there a way to output file to a report and not have each column padded with spaces, etc.? Even though my datatypes are varchars, it seems that there's a lot of blank spaces padding my files, making them too huge to even open in vi or email. I am looking for a way that will not require me to go into every column in my select statements, and specifically trim each column.

As an example, I have one column that is a VARCHAR(20), and when I spool data out, with separator as tab, I have a bunch of blank spaces both before and after the text, totalling 20 spaces (blanks and text). all I want is the text, followed by a tab. Something like 'trimspool' in Oracle.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Cheers :)

You don't mention what utility you are using to export data (bteq ?)

Try using fast export in VARTEXT mode.
