I am trying to set a user password so that when they log in the next time, they are prompted to enter a new password. I ran the following query with the user name
MODIFY USER manny1 as password=manny123 FOR USER;
When the user manny1 logs in with Teradata Administrator or Teradata SQL Assistant, they are not prompte to chang their password. What am I doing wrong.
Be sure you have ExpirePassword set to some nonzero value in DBC.SysSecDefaults and/or the user's Profile.
If passwords never expire then the user never gets prompted.
Changing ExpirePassword will not work.
I don't know why, but you can't set a temporary password anymore, since TD14.10 the FOR USER option is listed as Legacy keywords that are no longer used.
I didn't find any announcement regarding this "feature", I just noticed it two years ago when it didn't work as expected.
I never noticed that, but the manual now talks about a "temporary password" only in the context of the initial password defined when a user is first created. I don't know why either.
