Teradata Utilities - it works but I don't know why

We recently upgraded several Windows servers to V12 of the Teradata Utilities as part of a hardware upgrade. The odd thing is that we have been able to successfully run utility jobs (FastExport, FastLoad, MultiLoad) on these servers without actually setting up an ODBC data source that points to our new Teradata database machine.

The same thing has occurred on Linux servers we have upgraded. We have built test DataStage apps that extract from or load to the new Teradata machine - but we have not added any new entries to the Linux hosts file - we just run the DS job and, somehow, it connects correctly.

I hate to go looking for trouble when something is working, but we are genuinely puzzled as to why it's working. How are the Teradata Utilities able to find and connect to this otherwise unknown machine?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Teradata Tools use CLIv2, not ODBC.

Cheers.
