Oracle to Teradata job scheduling

Hello TD Gurus,

Could you please suggest the best method to schedule the extraction process from Oracle DB to Teradata. I mean without creating any flat files is it possible to access directly from Oracle.

Or is it the creating flat file and then load using one of the fastload, Multiload or Tpump methods are the best.

Thanks

Re: Oracle to Teradata job scheduling

You can do it, but how happy you'll be depends on the tools you have and how you want to run the job(s).

If you're doing a small number of rows and have access to SQLServer, a DTS package can do it in one step (at the cost rows being inserted one at a time).

For larger amounts of data, you can use cron and named pipes in Unix/Linux. You'd have a job that would run a SQL*Plus extract script and output to a named pipe that's the input to a fastload or mload job.
