Password reset not working using Studio

User is unable to change the password from Studio and receives below error:

Could not connect to Test_User.
Error creating SQL Model Connection connection to Test_User. (Error: [Teradata Database] [TeraJDBC 16.20.00.10] [Error 3706] [SQLState 42000] Syntax error: expected something between the word 'akram' and '.'.)
[Teradata Database] [TeraJDBC 16.20.00.10] [Error 3706] [SQLState 42000] Syntax error: expected something between the word 'akram' and '.'.

I can change the password through administrator. however, when user is prompt with change password diaglog, receives the above error.

Username has "." in it e.g. akram.khan. Any thoughts?

Re: Password reset not working using Studio

As a workaround, try entering the username in double quotes in the connection dialog (at least for initial logon).

Re: Password reset not working using Studio

Use of special characters (includes ".") is allowed for objects (users), but may require double quotes in SQL to work.

Administrator uses ODBC, where Studio uses JDBC to communicate with the database, by sending SQL.

Behaviour of ODBC and JDBC is not always the same.

Administrator probably encloses all object names in double quotes, where Studio does not.

Try with double quote around the name in Studio.

Re: Password reset not working using Studio

Thanks @FGroenen

Users are prompt to change the password on their first time login and therefore have to use the Dialog box to change the password.

For this reason they cannot use SQL through studio to change there passwords.

Any thoughts?

The only way successful is through bteq.

Re: Password reset not working using Studio

Using Studio, Modify user query is running successfully to change the password for a user. (MODIFY USER "test.user" AS PASSWORD= "sampple"; )

Password change dialog will appear only in case of password expires.

Could you please Elaborate on this where you could see this,

"Users are prompt to change the password on their first time login and therefore have to use the Dialog box to change the password."

Please mention the Studio version as well.
