When using TSE 15.10.01, it does not seem possible to edit data from a View.
Of course, Table Data Editor is working perfectly well with Tables. But is there a reason why data editing from View is not allowed ?
Vincent, This is a restriction in Teradata. Most likely because the data actually resides in the table, not the view.
Views of a single table with 1:1 correspondence between view columns and table columns may be updatable. In other words, you can use views to limit update access to specific rows and columns. But more complex views with joins, aggregation, derived column expressions, etc. are not updatable.
Studio currently does not provide the option for Views. If we can easily determine whether the view is 'updateable' without having to parse the View SQL, we should be able to add this. It is something we can look into.
From your last reply, I'm assuming Teradata might be willing to look into this feature. What would be the right way to formalise this request ? Should we open an incident under TaYS ?
Data Editing would definitely be a welcome addition to us since our access rights are usually granted on Views (as it is the recommended way to secure data access) and our Users mostly work with Views.
