Fastexport - advice on varying length records with non-display characters

Hi,

I am running Fastexport in a Windows environment.

Owing to the number of records and the varying column widths I am trying to export the data as VARCHAR.

It is pipe delimited .

This works fine , however, when I come to import the exported file into another application I come across an issue in that some of the columns or records are misaligned.

What I believe is happening is that the 2-byte column length descriptor is being interpreted  as a special ASCII character , such as <tab> and causing  this to happen.

Is there any other way to Fastexport varying width records? Does anyone know which characters or length would cause this issue? It appears to be ASCII '10' for example (line feed)

I am thinking I may be able to intercept the length of the record in a staging table and adjust the export so these special characters are never exported in the column length descriptor.

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you

Why doing complicated things when a simple TPT export script using DELIMITED format will cover everything, delimiters/quotes/NULLs?

I must take a look at the TPT option
Currently we only use Fastexport
